Sustainability

At Lesjöfors, sustainability is at the core of everything we do, from engineering and manufacturing to our daily operations. Across our global facilities, we run continuous environmental monitoring and improvement programs that strengthen quality, reduce impact, and support long-term, reliable performance.

Our ambition is to be the most sustainable spring and pressing company in the world

We recognise that manufacturing carries a significant environmental responsibility, which is why we’re actively driving toward a more sustainable future. Our climate targets align with the Paris Agreement and are formally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Climate considerations are central to our sustainability work, and transparency is key. We’re sharing our progress across the entire value chain – from operations to materials – and introducing lower carbon footprint products.

The importance of sustainable spring manufacturing

Sustainable spring manufacturing matters because every stage of the process – from material selection and energy use to handling waste and designing for longevity – directly shapes the industry’s environmental impact. Springs and pressings are integral to products that power mobility, infrastructure, medical devices, and renewable energy systems, so the choices we make have a far-reaching impact on the world around us.

By integrating sustainability at every stage of the journey, from sourcing to production to end-of-life considerations, we help reduce emissions, conserve resources, and enable industries to innovate with a smaller footprint.

Sustainability in focus

We’re connecting and analysing data across our global operations to understand where we stand today and set clear milestones for where we want to be tomorrow. This insight helps us strengthen our sustainability performance in a focused and measurable way.

We are in regular contact with our stakeholders and their input helps identify the sustainability areas that matter most, guiding the development of our long-term priorities and shaping our roadmap to 2030.

The future of sustainable spring manufacturing

Delivering on our sustainability ambitions means embedding our priorities across every part of our operations. It also requires close collaboration with partners and suppliers, working together to drive meaningful, large-scale change across the wider industry.

Becoming a better business for people and planet is a long-term commitment. By focusing on our impact over a realistic timeframe, we can build progress that is both measurable and lasting.

Roadmap towards 2030

We’re on a journey to becoming the most sustainable springs and pressing manufacturer in the world. It started back in 2012, and we’ve been committed to targeted projects and initiatives ever since.

  • 2022-2023

    • Greenhouse Gas accounting - full value chain
    • Climate commitment in line with the Paris Agreement validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)
    • First EcoVadis Assessment
  • 2024-2025

    • Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Level B
    • Project launch of Product Carbon Footprint
    • Development of EcoDesign principles
  • 2026-2030

    • Innovation with sustainability in mind
    • Enhanced focus on products that contribute to society (medical, essential components in wind turbines and solar panels)

Lesjöfors gets validation of science-based targets in line with the Paris agreement

We’re taking meaningful action to reduce our climate impact, guided by a clear sustainability strategy and focused investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Since 2021, we’ve assessed emissions across our full value chain, completing comprehensive greenhouse gas accounting in 2022. This work underpins our science-based reduction targets, now validated by the SBTi in line with the Paris Agreement. Alongside our own local reduction plans, we’re collaborating closely with suppliers and customers to advance low-carbon materials and improve product life cycle performance.

Collaboration is key to innovation

Collaboration drives our sustainability progress. By working with customers, suppliers and partners, we’re creating shared opportunities and building a more connected, data-driven industrial ecosystem that cuts carbon across the value chain.

Key solutions: How we are taking sustainable spring action

  • A man in a light blue shirt smiles while sitting in front of wooden crates marked "Lesjöfors."

Sound business ethics and social commitment

We uphold strict ethical standards through regular Code of Conduct training, and support local communities through charities, education partnerships, and industry collaboration.

  • Close-up of a spinning reel of shiny, metallic thread. The blurred motion creates a dynamic and textured pattern.

Circular solutions and more efficient use of resources

We conduct regular energy audits and improve efficiency through measures such as smarter ventilation control, LED lighting, better insulation, and expanded use of solar power.

  • A person wearing a black cap and safety goggles operates machinery in an industrial setting.

    Safe and stimulating work environment

We’re building a more inclusive workplace with better gender balance, a clear commitment to anti-discrimination, and a strong focus on preventing incidents.

Sustainability with high ambition

One of our core elements

"We have taken a big step forward in our strategy to build a modern Lesjöfors, integrating sustainability as one of our core elements to show that we take the issue and the impact on people and planet very seriously. We believe this will not only strengthen our stakeholder relationships and market position, but also drive our own personal ambition and ultimately contribute to a better world in the future."

Anna Haesert, VP Sustainability

4,000 sqm of biodiversity

"Sustainability has been part of who we are for a long time. So much so, that a few years ago, one of our employees had the idea to make some of our outdoor areas a better place for all kinds of animals. We knew they were on to a good idea and so we converted 4,000 sqm of land into a biodiversity area. This green space is blossoming with wildflowers, grasses and seeds and we now have a wide variety of animals, including many different birds, insects, hedgehogs, butterflies, rabbits and a family of foxes and sometimes even a deer or two."

Partnerships for change

"As wind energy continues to be a key supplier of electricity, the demands on the industry and the environment are increasingly under pressure. Partnerships with quality component suppliers are essential for the network to operate at the turnover required. This is why our customer relationship with Lesjӧfors is so crucial, as we know we can trust and rely on their compression springs and supply service to meet the demands of our industry. The group’s focus on a more sustainable pathway is also a key reason why they are such a valued supplier."
